Solutions — Battery operators

Every rack, against the contract and the price.

Alpha shows what each rack does, what the contract asks and what the price was at that moment. Battery and solar sit in one platform, and the analysis runs on to an alarm with an owner and a work order.

Recognise this

The contract, the market and the warranty all ask for proof.

  1. 01

    Performance and availability

Availability is a contract term at scale. Sungrow and Nuveen's 1.32 GWh European deal includes a service agreement the companies say guarantees 98% system availability.

    Revenue you cannot explain

Modo reports GB batteries averaged £50k/MW/year in 2024, with the highest-earning systems earning 50% more. A gap like that raises the question of what your own battery did.

    Alarms nobody picks up

Of 26 battery safety incidents with a classified cause, in a database of 81, 10 were traced to integration and 8 to operation. Cells or modules were the failed element in 3.

    Warranty and financing

Fidra Energy's CEO says longer battery warranties are allowing banks to offer longer debt terms. So the warranty has to hold.

From problem to solution

From rack data to an answer for the contract.

01 — Performance and availability

Every rack, and availability against the threshold.

Per rack the state of charge, the highest and lowest cell voltage and the hottest and coolest cell, each with the cell that holds it, grouped per container. Availability in time and in power against the threshold, and for the contract without the planned exclusions.

What it gets you
An availability figure you can hold against the contract.

Racks per container

Container 1
Rack 129.4 °CSoC 62%ΔV 18 mV
Rack 229.9 °CSoC 61%ΔV 21 mV
Rack 330.2 °CSoC 62%ΔV 19 mV
Rack 429.7 °CSoC 63%ΔV 17 mV
Container 2
Rack 130.8 °CSoC 60%ΔV 22 mV
Rack 231.1 °CSoC 61%ΔV 20 mV
Rack 331.4 °CSoC 60%ΔV 24 mV
Rack 436.8 °CSoC 57%ΔV 46 mV

02 — Revenue you cannot explain

Charge and discharge next to the day-ahead price.

One chart holds power, state of charge and the day-ahead price. Alpha values the dispatch at that price and takes off degradation, so you can check your optimiser's work. Alpha does not steer.

What it gets you
A revenue figure you can explain.

03 — Alarms nobody picks up

An alarm with an owner and a clock.

Rules watch the spread in state of charge, cell temperature and cell voltage, cell outliers and racks that deviate from their peers. An alarm case gets an assignee and SLA deadlines, and can schedule a work order.

What it gets you
Every signal has an owner, and the follow-up is on record.

04 — Warranty and financing

The lifetime dossier, and the monthly report.

Throughput, cycles and minutes above the temperature limit, with Alpha's own state of health next to the BMS figure. Warranty clauses are read from the document as proposals a person accepts. A monthly report per battery comes as Excel and as a PDF in the customer's brand.

What it gets you

What you steer on

The figures a battery is measured on.

Availability
In time and in power, against the threshold and the contract.
Round-trip efficiency
Per battery, in the monthly report.
State of health
Alpha's own figure next to the BMS figure.
Throughput and cycles
Per battery, in the lifetime dossier.
Time above temperature
In minutes, against the warranty's limit.
Revenue less degradation
Per month and per MWh discharged.

How it is calculated

Where a figure comes from.

Availability, three ways

In time, weighted by power, and for the contract, without the readings inside an exclusion. You see which one you are looking at.

A default says it is one

Without entered warranty terms, the check uses a general LFP template of 70% after 10 years or 6,000 cycles, and marks it as the default.

Read-only

Alpha reads the battery and does not steer it. Nothing it does can start, stop or curtail a PCS.

Questions

What you will want to know.

Does Alpha steer the battery or trade for me?

No. Alpha reads and does not control. Your EMS and optimiser keep doing their work, and Alpha shows the result next to the price.

Which batteries does Alpha read?

A battery connects through its manufacturer's cloud, a push feed or an EMS export file. Not every brand has a connector yet, so we check yours first.

Do I see every single cell?

You see each rack's extremes: the highest and lowest cell voltage and the hottest and coolest cell, with the number of the cell that holds them.

What does the revenue figure include?

Dispatch at the day-ahead price, or the EMS's own price where the zone has none, plus peak shaving for a C&I battery with a contracted import, less degradation. Contracted ancillary services and imbalance are not in it.
